Oldboy is a critically acclaimed South Korean thriller directed by Park Chan-wook, released in 2003. It’s known for its gripping mystery, emotional intensity, and shocking twists. Here's a summary of the story:

Plot Summary:
Oh Dae-su, an ordinary businessman, is mysteriously kidnapped and imprisoned in a private cell for 15 years without knowing the identity of his captor or the reason why. During his confinement, he learns from the news that his wife has been murdered and he is the prime suspect. His only connection to the outside world is a TV, through which he trains himself physically and mentally.
Suddenly, Dae-su is released into the outside world with a suit, money, and a cellphone. Determined to find his captor and get revenge, he begins a violent and emotional quest. He meets a young sushi chef named Mi-do, who helps him in his investigation and eventually becomes romantically involved with him.
As he digs deeper, Dae-su discovers that he was imprisoned by a wealthy man named Lee Woo-jin. The shocking truth is eventually revealed: when they were in school, Dae-su had witnessed Woo-jin’s incestuous relationship with his sister and spread the rumor, leading to her suicide. Woo-jin imprisoned Dae-su as revenge.
But the ultimate twist: Mi-do is actually Dae-su’s own daughter, and Woo-jin orchestrated everything so that they would unknowingly fall in love—making Dae-su suffer a psychological torment even worse than death.
In the end, Dae-su begs Woo-jin not to reveal the truth to Mi-do and even mutilates himself to prove his sincerity. Woo-jin, satisfied, lets him go and later kills himself. The film ends ambiguously, with Dae-su seeking hypnosis to forget the truth and be with Mi-do.

Themes: Revenge, psychological manipulation, guilt, memory, and the destructive power of secrets.
Let me know if you want the story of the 2013 American remake—it’s quite different in tone and reception.
